Books

Photography has always been my way of paying attention to the landscape. While a single photograph can capture a fleeting moment, some places invite a slower, deeper conversation—one that naturally unfolds across the pages of a book.

My books are not intended as guidebooks or historical reference works. They are personal projects, shaped by years of observation, quiet walks and a fascination with the stories held within the British landscape. They bring together photography, field notes and reflections, inviting readers to experience familiar places through changing seasons and a slower pace of discovery.

Each publication represents a chapter in my own photographic journey and a hope that others may pause, look more closely and find beauty in the landscapes that surround us.

Calleva: A Year Inside the Walls

A Photographer’s Field Notes from the Roman Town of Silchester and the Ancient Hampshire Landscape

Some landscapes quietly become part of who we are. For me, the Roman town of Calleva Atrebatum at Silchester has been one of those places.

I first walked its ancient walls as a child and have returned throughout my life, camera in hand. Over the course of a year I set out to photograph this remarkable landscape through every season, recording not only its changing light but also the wildlife, trees and quiet details that reveal themselves only through time and patience.

This is not a history of Roman Britain, nor a visitor’s guide. Instead, it is a personal photographic journey through one of Hampshire’s most remarkable landscapes, combining photography, field notes and reflections on the natural world that now flourishes within these ancient walls.

The Overcast Landscape: A Beginner's Guide to Photographing British Landscapes in Flat Light, Mist and Rain

Published March 2026 • Paperback

The Overcast Landscape

A Beginner’s Guide to Photographing British Landscapes in Flat Light, Mist and Rain

Some photographers wait patiently for golden sunrises or dramatic sunsets. I have always found myself drawn to quieter conditions — the soft light of an overcast morning, drifting mist across a valley, or gentle rain that brings texture, atmosphere and stillness to the landscape.

The Overcast Landscape is an invitation to see those grey days differently. Rather than searching for perfect weather, it explores how subtle, diffused light can simplify a composition, reveal delicate detail and create photographs filled with mood, depth and quiet emotion.

Illustrated with photographs from around the British countryside, the book blends practical guidance with personal experience. Whether you’re taking your first steps into landscape photography or simply looking to develop a more thoughtful approach, it encourages you to slow down, embrace the changing weather and discover beauty in conditions that many photographers choose to overlook.

Where the Wall Whispers: Calleva Atrebatum - Black and White Film Photography

Where the Wall Whispers

Calleva Atrebatum – Black & White Film Photography

Long before digital photography, black and white film taught me to look beyond colour and concentrate on light, texture and atmosphere. Returning to the Roman town of Calleva Atrebatum with analogue cameras felt like revisiting the landscape in the language it had always spoken to me.

Where the Wall Whispers is a quiet photographic journey through one of Britain’s most remarkable archaeological landscapes. Ancient walls, weathered churchyards and peaceful woodland paths are explored through traditional black and white film, allowing the timeless character of the place to emerge without distraction.

Rather than documenting history, these photographs seek to capture a sense of presence — moments of stillness where landscape, memory and photography come together. It is a book for those who enjoy analogue photography, historic places and the quiet beauty that can often be found when we simply slow down and observe.

Echoes of Calleva

Landscapes Beyond the Stones

Every landscape carries traces of those who have walked before us. Around the ancient Roman town of Calleva Atrebatum, history is never far away, yet it often reveals itself quietly — through changing light across old earthworks, weathered stone, open fields and the timeless rhythms of the Hampshire countryside.

Echoes of Calleva is a photographic exploration of these subtle connections. Rather than documenting archaeology alone, it reflects on the wider landscape that surrounds the Roman walls, capturing the atmosphere, stillness and sense of place that have drawn me back to Silchester throughout my life.

Through more than fifty colour photographs, this collection invites readers to wander beyond the stones and experience a landscape where history has become part of the natural world. It is a quiet visual journey, encouraging us to slow down, look more closely and discover how memory continues to live within the land.

Paths of Watership Down: A Photographic Exploration

Paths of Watership Down

A Photographic Exploration

Few landscapes have inspired the imagination quite like Watership Down. Beyond its literary associations lies a place of sweeping chalk hills, ancient tracks, open skies and quiet moments that reveal themselves only to those willing to walk slowly and return often.

Paths of Watership Down is my personal photographic journey through this much-loved corner of Hampshire. Created over many walks in every season, the book combines digital photography with traditional black and white film, allowing each medium to interpret the landscape in its own distinctive way.

Rather than following a fixed route or seasonal order, the photographs unfold as memories often do—one path leading naturally to another. It is a celebration of place, light and atmosphere, inviting readers to experience the enduring beauty of the Downs through a slower, more contemplative way of seeing.

In My Own Light

A Year of Black & White Film Photography

Returning to black and white film photography was never simply about using an analogue camera again. It became an opportunity to slow down, work with greater intention and rediscover the quiet satisfaction of creating photographs one frame at a time.

In My Own Light is a deeply personal collection exploring the relationship between photography, mindfulness and wellbeing. From peaceful coastlines to quiet countryside scenes, each photograph reflects the calm that can be found by giving complete attention to the present moment and embracing the beautifully imperfect nature of film.

Rather than focusing on the technical process, this book celebrates a different way of seeing—one that values patience, simplicity and the emotional connection between photographer and landscape. It is an invitation to pause, breathe and discover how creativity can become a gentle form of reflection and restoration.
